Carolina Orduno, a senior at Chestatee High School and a member of the Georgia Department of Education’s Student Advisory Council, has a passion for literacy and helping students in elementary schools in Hall County.  One of her passions is for children in her community to own their own high-quality books. Her service project for the Georgia Department of Education fuses this love of literacy with service to her community.

During Read Across America Week, Carolina was a guest reader for students at local feeder schools.  During this time, she connected with Marla Fouts, a teacher at Lyman Hall Elementary.  Together with Ms. Fouts, Carolina developed a plan for a book drive for Lyman Hall Elementary students, with a focus on newcomer students and those in Kindergarten.  Carolina worked with Ms. Fouts and media specialists at both schools to develop an Amazon Wish List for donations.

Carolina’s goal is to have 100 books purchased for Lyman Hall.   Her Lyman Hall Book Drive wish list is located here.  Books purchased on Amazon will ship directly to Lyman Hall and placed into the hands of a student!

*Please ship books to Marla Fouts at Lyman Hall Elementary when Amazon asks for an address.

Please help Carolina meet her goal and donate a book today!

CHS is happy to announce the following events for the Class of 2021!

Prom is set for April 24th from 7:30PM-10:00PM. This special event will be held at Smithgall Art Center, 331 Spring Street SW, Gainesville, GA 30501. Masks and mitigation are required at this event. Prom will be held outside, so please plan accordingly. Prom tickets are reserved for SENIORS ONLY and a date of his/her choosing. Guests that do not currently attend Chestatee High will have to be pre-approved by administration. Normal rules and procedures for prom, and their guests, still apply. More details about ticketing information will be released soon.

Graduation is set for May 14th on or around 7PM at Lynn Cottrell Complex at Chestatee High School. We are working to determine the number of tickets that will be available per graduate. Families will be social distanced during the ceremony. We will utilize the stadium and the track for seating in order to maximize the space and number of tickets. The number of COVID cases, and data at the time of graduation may also limit or impact capacity. Hall County mitigation practices will still apply: temperature checks and masks will be required in order to enter the facility.

In the event that inclement weather makes it unsafe or difficult to hold graduation on Friday night, the following procedures will be used to move the date/time for graduation.

  1. May 15th at 9AM
  2. May 15th on or around 7PM
  3. If either of these two options are not safe, graduation will be Monday, May 17th on or around 7PM or the next available evening that weather permits.
